The Kafue National Park is massive and working out how to move around and where to go can be very intimidating.
Nanzhila Safaris owns and operates 2 very special camps in the Southern Kafue and we wanted to help you understand how you can best move around the Kafue.

accommodation options
Our Nanzhila Plains camp is by far the best option and is available from 1 May – 30 November each season. Game drives and walking safaris as well as an incredible variety of wildlife and birding species!
the road from livingstone
The most sensible access here will be a road transfer to or from Livingstone which we will arrange. The transfer time will differ through the season with May and June potentially taking an extra 90 minutes whilst you by-pass the floodplain roads. From July in a normal season, the direct route through the plains opens.
If you are self driving, be sure to check with us first on the road conditions but if we are arranging your transfer, we will select the best and most direct route.
flights options
Flying from Livingstone to the Southern Kafue is possible BUT generally only an option if your group is between 5 – 9 passengers as there is only a Caravan available for private charter permanently in Livingstone.

accommodation options
Nanzhila Lake Camp is the most popular/recommended option for the Southern Kafue and is available from 1 March – 31 December each season. Game drives and boat cruises on the Musa River and Lake Itezhi-tezhi bring this unique corner of the Kafue to life. Transfers can be arranged from the central part of the park down either the spinal road OR the Itezhi-tezhi road which is the same road we would use when booking your Lusaka transfers. This effectively connects Lusaka and the Central Kafue to the Southern Kafue
Flight options from lusaka
If you would prefer to fly from Lusaka, the Skytrails seat rates to the Kafue allow you to fly into Ngoma Airstrip – a 30 minute drive to Lake Camp or 90 minute game drive down to Nanzhila Plains.
The Southern Kafue is an incredible piece of Zambia and the best way to travel from Livingstone to Lusaka or vice versa with great game viewing and birding in between!
