DAY 1 - 4: 3 NIGHTS

3 nights at Nanzhila Plains Camp

Nanzhila Plains is the most southerly camp in Kafue National Park. It is situated on a tree-covered "island" overlooking the dambos (seasonal wetlands) of the Nanzhila River. The camp provides a private safari experience in a vast, under-explored region.

Camp Highlights:

  • This is one of the best locations in Zambia to see roan, sable, and oribi. The open dambos allow for clear, long-distance viewing of these specialized species.
  • Guaranteed predator sightings (lion, leopard, cheetah)
  • With over 450 recorded species in the area, the plains are a significant draw for birdwatchers, including sightings of the endemic Black-cheeked Lovebird.

Day 4 - 7: 3 nights

3 nights at Nanzhila Lake Camp

Nanzhila Lake Camp is located on the edge of Lake Itezhi-Tezhi, overlooking the Musa River. The camp’s elevated position provides views over the floodplains, where animals congregate as the surrounding bush dries out.

Camp Highlights:

  1. Large Mammal Concentrations: The proximity to the lake attracts significant herds of elephant and buffalo, particularly during the dry season. This abundance of prey also supports healthy populations of lion and leopard.

  2. Varied Landscapes: Unlike the flat plains of the south, the lake region features rocky outcrops, shoreline grasslands, and riverine forest, offering a high variety of scenery and photography opportunities.

  3. Water-Based Activities: Depending on the season and water levels, guests can enjoy boat cruises on Lake Itezhi-Tezhi, providing a different perspective on the park's wildlife and birdlife.
