Plains Camp: The home of the Predators
Nanzhila Plains Camp sits in the secluded southern reaches of Kafue National Park, tucked among Jackalberry and Sausage trees on the edge of a vast seasonal dambo. It's the only camp in this quietest stretch of Southern Kafue — which means the wildlife you encounter here, you encounter largely on your own. The camp also makes for an effortless add-on to a Victoria Falls itinerary: fly or drive in from Livingstone and blend the drama of the Falls with one of Zambia's most rewarding — and least visited — safari experiences, all in one seamless trip.

Greater Variety of wildlife
Southern Kafue rewards patience with variety. Water-dependent giants — hippo, elephant, buffalo — gather along the dambo edges, while the open grasslands support an impressive range of antelope species. Across both Nanzhila camps, big cat sightings remain remarkably consistent, making this one of the most reliable regions in Zambia for predator encounters.
Setting & Atmosphere
Raised on an elevated teak deck, the camp's thatched lounge and dining area put you squarely inside the sounds of the bush — grazing antelope just beyond the treeline, the crack of branches as elephants feed nearby. There's no need to go looking for wildlife; much of the time, it comes to you.
Peace, Tranquility & Unobstructed Views
Five chalets, each accommodating two guests, are positioned along the treeline for uninterrupted views across the dambo. Each comes with en-suite facilities — hot and cold shower, toilet, and double basins — designed for comfort without disrupting the sense of being genuinely out in the wild.

There are 6 rooms at Plains Camp (5 chalets & 1 Safari Tent) that can each accommodate two guests. They are positioned along the tree line, giving guests an unobstructed view of the dambo.

The revival of the Southern Kafue!
When Steve and Cindy Smith first explored the Southern Kafue, the only animal they saw across three full days was a single tortoise. Years of dedicated conservation work later, Plains Camp now holds an internal 24-hour record of 27 different mammal species spotted across just two game drives — morning and evening — not even counting the smaller, harder-to-spot mice, moles, and bats. It's one of the most striking wildlife turnarounds in Zambia's conservation story, and proof of what patient, low-impact tourism can achieve.
